Our founder and Technical Applications / Sales Engineer has been involved in all facets of Non Destructive Testing since 1977. In 1984, he received ASNT NDT Level III certification in Ultrasonic NDT while at Automation Sperry Products Division in Chatsworth, California and as a Quality Engineer at Douglas Aircraft Corporation NDT Level III 1987 (Now Boeing). For over 40 years as a career, he has provided problem solving and customer applications engineering support. Both in his applications engineering lab and on site at customer locations he has been involved in solving difficult technical NDT inspection problems. He specialized in Composite Material and High Speed rotating turbine disk Ultrasonic Inspections throughout the 1980’s utilizing cryptic RDOS on Data General Mini-Computer controlled systems, then the IBM PC in mid 1980’s. At the time, both companies provided state of the art contour following using “Teach Index” to memorize curvatures for repeated inspection. This software was patented for it’s unique linear and circular interpolation machine control. Inspection of complex compound curvature were the primary focus.  Working with various Aerospace and Military/ Defense contractors on such programs as the F-15, F-16, F-18, V-22, B-1, B-2 Stealth Bomber, etc. He traveled extensively to assist with on-site installations, customer acceptance testing, operation training, applications engineering and functional software testing. This worldwide customer training and support included Northrop, Pratt Whitney, General Electric, Sunstrand, Rockwell International, Rohr, Grumman, Beech, Cessna, Lear, US Air Force at McClellan AFB, North Island Naval Aircraft stations. International customers included the Argentine Air Force and Embraer in Brazil. Ultrasonic Squirter NDT inspection support using everything from small X, Y, and Z Lab scanners up to 60′ Gantry / Robotic high Speed Ultrasonic C-Scan systems with on the fly data acquisition and computer graphics display in real time with curvilinear scanning. Both Automation Industries and CalData / Dupont were at the time, the primary vendors in this field. In 1990, Pre-internet our founder invested in his own company to broker, inventory and market Testing equipment for all NDT, inspection and laboratory disciplines. All equipment was calibrated to ISO Specifications by an outside lab and fully warrantied. Pre-Owned NDT equipment such as Ultrasonic Flaw Detectors and C-Scan systems, Eddy Current, X-Ray and Borescopes / Remote Video was sold at 50% of new pricing, which disrupted the NDT market. Soon, all Manufacturers representatives copied his success and the new equipment manufacturers were of course- unsupportive of seeing their equipment life extended. The Hartzell Propeller Service Bulletin came out and the ED-520 Eddy Current testers were in such high demand, than he sold 25 year old instruments- with analog needle movement which were still serviceable. In fact, a few might still be used today, 25 years further in time!

In 1995, he was contacted to independently market borescope and visual inspection products for an 8 employee silicon valley upstart company in Mountain View, California. On an OEM basis, Borescope inspection equipment was sold and supported as a value added system integrator on private label. This Borescope sales company became the highest volume distributor, independent of the major German, American and Japanese manufacturers. The largest markets were in the Business Jet segment with small turbines such as the Pratt Whitney PT-6 and JT-15D. However, the company provided many other solutions of other not so high volume borescope inspection applications where problems were solved to such obscure ones as finding rare ants and termites inside dead trees in Africa, to video media productions for Hollywood to High precision manufacturing, precision cast part inspections to critical Nuclear and Defense inspections and tests. High Pressure piping and water system inspections, wind turbine gear box visual inspections, power turbines in hydro power, coal and co-generation as well as other gas turbine inspections. This Remote Visual Inspection website existed prior to the .Com boom of the internet expansion that occurred in 2000 and products were distributed successfully worldwide. A partnership split occurred and the first company was sold and the partners parted ways and a new company was founded in 2005 which is known as PacificBorescopes.com. This OEM private label distribution agreement continued for nearly 20 years, and the company grew into over 500 employees worldwide and they hired direct employees and a Sales Manager to grow beyond having smaller primary distributors, and expanded the market to have a brand name independent of private label resellers. This unknown upstart borescope manufacturer has invested to become a now worldwide dominate player with direct sales primarily in Europe and compete effectively with the 2 primary Borescope Manufacturers one based in Japan and the other a large multi-national company.

Pacific Borescopes continues on in technology consulting in various R & D programs and new optical and NDT product development and marketing.
