Borescopes

This is a term Borescope was derived for Industrial usage of looking into the borescopes of armament and large guns from the early 1900’s. The more common term that a Borescope or sometimes and commonly spelled as Boroscope (McDonnell Douglass/Boeing has that in their service bulletins, and unfortunately tech entities such as Google have somehow decided and taken liberty of “correcting” in search the spelling entirely independent of Industry knowledge) that is also known as an Endoscope- which is derived from the Medical Industry. The earliest Endoscope borescopes were series of relay lens that were installed in a rigid stainless steel precision tube in a diameter of 8 or 10mm. This type of Endoscope is still very commonly used for surgery where 3 holes are cut into the human body. Typically one for a suction, one for the Endoscope and the other for tools for cutting, suturing and the specific procedure. Endoscope surgery has vastly improved the quality of lives and reduced recovery time of all human beings and even animals. Flexible Borescopes also known as Videoscopes or Fiberscopes are quite commonly used in industry for solving many different difficult remote visual inspection processes meeting critical equipment maintenance needs.

Rigid Borescopes have amazing depth of field

As a demonstration, we took an ordinary 10mm diameter achromatic lens rigid borescope and mounted on a hummingbird feeder to demonstrate the capabilities of the optical clarity. This video was done a number of years ago.
